We would like to have patrons self-register online, and receive some sort of account ID and PIN that will allow them to immediately access online content such as OverDrive. Details need to discussed about local databases that may have restrictions. The self registration must store as a record in Evergreen for SIP authentication.

This would be great. Some libraries might wish to enforce restrictions based on age or address. It might also be good to require email address or phone number verification.

Accounts created this way would need to have a particular patron type or other indication that they were created online.

Currently many libraries, including my own, are offering online card sign up in ways that are labor intensive and slow.

We absolutely would have to have an address checker that could compare to provided districts and assign the patron automatically to the correct district or it would be illegal to implement here, not to mention risky if your econtent contracts have any residency basis.
